MUSIC THERAPY PERSPECTIVES: MUSICAL DIALOGUE WITH A PARTNER

condotto da ELENA FITZTHUM

presso la struttura di VILLA MIARI

Via Lesina di Sopra, Santorso (VI)

For Viennese School of Music Therapy, free improvising with a partner is of significant importance  since 1959.
First used as a tool to promote emotional expression (1959-1970), it was transferred step by step into a diagnostic instrument. At least, free improvisation creates a space, where encounter is possible. The theoretical background is in communication with Martin Buber´s idea of his philosophy of dialogue, a form of existentialism centered on the distinction between the “I–Thou”- relationship.
To enter a therapeutic relationship, the music therapist needs to train the awareness for himself as well as for his partner. First step to create an intensive partner improvisation means to reduce all musical elements. It starts with the so called “One-Note-Partner-Play”.
This workshop will give an insight into this way of improvising and will train the music therapist´s awareness for what is going on between two dialogue partners; and it builds a bridge to psychotherapy.
